Kibingo washing station has a rich history of coffee producing in Burundi. Built in 1986 in the Kayanza Commune at 1893 MASL close to the Congo-Nile Crest. The name 'Kibingo' comes from the Kirundi work urubingo which means 'reeds'. Reeds were planted along the river to contain the water to prevent the surrounding soils from eroding. This washing station collects cherries from over 3500 local coffee farmers spread over 18 neighbouring colonies.
